~ ~
Application Exhibit D - Reclamation Plan
The area affected in the mining operation is rock outcrop - rubble land
complex with 15 to 60 percent slopes.
Top soil varies in depth, from 0 to 6 inches.
The plan o.f reclamation will be implemented as follows:
After the underground mining operation terminates, the portal will be caved
and all equipment and storage buildings (if any) will be removed from the
surface area. After removal of all appurtenances, the area will be graded
into the existing topography. Any remaining mine dump material will be
graded to conform with existing topography. Where disturbance has extended
to areas with soil mantle on which vegetation has been affected, revegeta-
tion will be implemented.
Although soil conditions are poor (soils are rocky and shallow) in this
vacinity and vegetation cover is sparse, revegetation to a comparable
condition should be possible.
The reclamation plan will follow these phases:
Phase one entails returning waste dump sites on natural rock slide material
to natural grade if possible and blending these sites with existing surface
material. This will be achieved by selective removal of waste dump materials
insofar as possible, and the use of a bulldozer and front-end loader to
disperse material.
Secondly, a revegetation program will be effected in those areas where soil
is deemed adequate to support efforts to re-establish plant growth.
Thirdly, upon termination of underground mining activity, all portals
developed pursuant to underground working will be permanently closed by
caving and will be backfilled and graded, all appurtenances will be removed
and the area graded into existing topography and the revegetation started.
Pre-existing roadways will be exempted from this scheme. Grading will
attempt to conform to natural topography.and will be in the range of 2:1
as dictated by natural slope configuration. Where lands are amenable to
revegetation seed bed preparation will entail raking and smoothing prior
to application of straw or hay mulch at the rate of (1) ton .per acre. It
is expected that less than one acre of affected land will require this
attention. Where possible, revegetation slopes will be maintained at
2.5 - 3:0:1. Fall planting, prior to ground freezing are anticipated and
the area will be fertilized at that time at the rate of 50 pounds of
nitrogen and phophorous, potash, i.e. 16-20-7. Seed will be broadcast
by hand and the area raked to cover seeds immediately after fertilization
