This pit will border Walker State Wildlife Area
(SWA) for the length of the northern boundary. Consequently, the
SWA will experience significant impact from the operation. But
in light of the potential to curb current activities on the site
(vagrancy, party spot, dumping) and the potential to help shape
the end result, the Division does rot object to the pit.
However, we would like to make the following comments with regard
to easements, reclamation and recommendations to lessen the
impact to the wildlife present on-site and on the SWA.

Constant noise and hums
loss of wildlife habits
a gravel pit operation.
(mostly greasewood) appe

ased particulates,
impacts to wildlife
vegetation on-site
L~~~o
~`~®v
ONOF~
For Wildlife-
For People
and
from
oid of life, several
species make their homes
feeding. These include
and cottontail rabbits,
raptors, lizards and rodents, a few coyotes and an occassional
deer or two. Either the SWA can absorb most of these animals
that will be displaced and/or the predators can. While there
will be no direct loss of habitat on the SWA, indirect loss of
habitat results due to the zone of influence of the excavation
activities. Furthermore, people who use the SWA to watch and
listen to wildlife will be less inclined to do so with the noise
of heavy equipment in the background.
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES, James Lochhead, Ezeeutive Director
WILDLIFE COMMISSION, Thomas M.
