MINING PLAN

The purpose of this application is to secure a Reclamation Permit
for a Regular 112 Mining Operation in order to conduct gravel
extraction, processing and storage operations at a surface sand and
gravel mine.
The property that is the subject of this application consists of
87.7 acres in total, with 78.7 acres to be affected with mining
activities.
Activities that will be conducted at this site are those that are
typical to open pit sand and gravel operations, including removal
and storage of topsoil and overburden soil, and extraction and
stockpiling of gravel using customary surface mining techniques.
The subject site is immediately west of United Companies' River
Road Gravel Pit (M-91-136), separated by the Appleton Drainage
Ditch that is owned by the Grand Junction Drainage District. It is rJ~FS !•~~~~
the intention of the applicant to construct a bridge across this .,1~',~
ditch and to haul or convey raw pit run gravel from the proposed Pih:,f''~
Railhead Pit to the River Road Gravel Pit where it will be T~7
processed into graded construction aggregates and various specialty
gravels. These processed gravels will be stored at the River Road
Pit and dispersed from that site.
The development of the mine will commence with the removal of the
topsoil and overburden soil from the eastern most two acres. This
soil will be used to construct the earthen berm that is depicted on
the Mining Plan Map. Approximately 20,000 cubic yards of soil will
be required for this purpose. The berm will remain in place for
the duration of mining activities at the site. At the conclusion
of mining activities, the berm will be removed and the soil will be
used for backfilling of excavated areas, and for plating slopes
with topsoil.
The Division of Wildlife has recommended that a berm also be
constructed along the southern boundary, in order to serve as a
visual and noise barrier. A berm 4' to 6' tall will be constructed
for this purpose along the southern boundary as mining activities
progress.
After the overburden soil has been removed from the east portion of
the site in order to build the berm, gravel extraction will begin
at that area. The gravel deposit will be excavated using a front
end loader or hydraulic excavator and loaded into trucks that will
transport the material out of the subject site to the process area
at the River Road Pit. An alternate method of transporting the p ~t
run gravels to the process area will be by using a front end loader
to load to gravel onto a conveyor system that will car~y~~~~to the
',~t~~ 1
3 JUN 12 1995
plvision of Minerals & Geolo9Y
