We are also concerned about drainage. If water does in fact seep into the pit,
how will it be discharged? ~T7iis pit will basically be a hole, so there is no natural
drainage.
The plan to reclaim this land as cropland also seems absurd. If the land is not
viable as a farm now, how can it possibly be viable when it is 40 or 60 feet below
ground level? How can someone possibly farm that land? Again, how does the
irrigation wastewater get removed from the pit? The deepest part is on the
south end. How can the farmer irrigate uphill to the shallower northern end?
We are concerned that the land will prove too hard to reclaim. Can you please
tell me the amount of the bond that Halderson will be required to post? Is there
any inflation index or percentage increase in the face amount of the bond? I
have some serious concerns that when the mining operations have ceased, the
reclamation will not be completed.
Thank you for your attention in this matter. I seriously hope you deny the
mining permit because of all the issues that will be presented on this application.
Sincerely,
Emily Sch eider
14180 Matterhorn Way
Montrose, CO 81401
970-249-5919
eschneiderCa~ocinet.net
