II West Coal Refuse Facility General Information and Credits
Sedimentation Pond E Retaining Stnrcture
8.0 GENERAL INFORMATION AND CREDITS
Professional judgments, analysis, and evaluations are presented in this report. They are
based partly on information gathered during our reconnaissance; partly on information
provided by the Owner; and partly on our general experience with similaz projects. We
do not guarantee the performance of the project in any respect, only that our engineering
work and judgments rendered meet the standard of care of our profession.
•
•
Test pits excavated by MWH for the geotechnical investigation were spaced to obtain a
reasonable chazacterization of the subsurface conditions for design purposes. Variations
from the conditions portrayed by test explorations frequently occur. These variations
should be considered and properly addressed in subsequent phases since such variations
can also be sufficient to necessitate modifications in subsequent design and construction.
The construction of retention structures involves the use of natural materials, which by
their very nature vary so much that it is not possible to-cover all eventualities in design.
This necessitates guidance in decisions at all stages of additional investigations, design
and construction made by competent and experienced personnel.
MWH's services were performed within the limits prescribed by our Clients, with the
usual thoroughness and competence of the engineering profession. No other
representation, either expressed or implied, is included or intended in our proposals,
contracts, or reports.
This report was prepared by Michael J. Mi]]er, P.E., Project Engineer, Jerry Nettleton was
the Principal-in-Charge, and Terry Arnold, P.E. and Gary Mass, P. E. provided the
Technical Review for this project.
i~~~.:~
Michael J. Miller
Principal Engineer
P.E.
