STATE OF COLORADO
Bill Owens, Governor
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
DIVISION OF WILDLIFE
AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER
Bruce McCloskey, Acting Director
6060 Broadway
Denver, Colorado 80216
Telephone: (303)297-1192
February 18, 2004
Mr. Harry H. It does not appear that the excavation of aggregate materials at this
site will have a significant impact to resident and migrating wildlife. Additionally, there are no known
threatened or endangered wildlife species known to occupy or visit this area.
We would like to make the following recommendations for your consideration. First, topsoil should be
stockpiled and seeded with a temporary seed mix to prevent loss until ready for use in the reclamation
process. Control of noxious weeds during both the mining and reclamation phase should be actively pursued
to prevent infestation on site and in the surrounding area. The site should be reclaimed as native short grass
prairie and should be graded to match the surrounding topography to the extent practical. Selection of an
appropriate seed mix can be accomplished in consultation with local NRCS personnel. Finally, the site
should be fenced to restrict access by livestock until proper vegetative cover is achieved and bond is released.
Thank you for providing us the opportunity to comment. Please feel free to contact us should you have any
questions or require additional information.
Sincerely,
~~~
Bruce McClosk
Acting Director
cc: Mark Konishi, Regional Manager
Dave Clippinger, Area Wildlife Manager
Warren Cummings, District Wildlife Manager
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES, Russell George, Executive Director
WILDLIFE COMMISSION, Rick Enstrom, Chair • Philip James, Uce-Chair • Olive Valdez, Secretary
Members, Bernard Black • Tom Burke • Jeffrey Crawford • Brad Phelps • Robert Shoemaker.
