-7-

tested to determine the strength characteristics. Additionally, we
suggest that compaction curves be developed to provide guidance in
the determination of densities.' The preliminary stability analyses can be
confirmed when this data is available. Periodic checks of the density
should be made. This type of testing is relatively simple..for experienced
personnel, and considering the slow rate of production, we suggest that
this service be contracted with a qualified testing laboratory. Based on
our current estimates of the rate of production, it appears that density
testing will be required approximately once each 6 months during the con-
struction period of the anticipated disposal site. If refuse and waste
materials develop at a faster rate, it may be necessary to increase the fre-
quency of testing. Frequency of testing is based on an assumption that ap-
proximately one foot of fill can be developed in a 6-month period.
LIMITATIONS
The recommendations and conclusions presented in this report are based
on a preliminary investigation of the site and our experience with similar
types of construction. Considering the planned method and types of material
to be used, conditions could change as the disposal site develops. We sug-
gest that a representative of our office be on-site during preparation of
the drainage system and that periodic testing be made to determine the
strength and density characteristics of the refuse material.
