2.04.10 <br />• The Juniper-pinyon woodland within the mine area was partly <br />transitional, though the more classic, steep-sloped form of this <br />community was also present. Classic expression of this community <br />typically contains very weak shrub and herbaceous understories. <br />Transitional areas include greater amounts of big sagebrush or <br />perennial grasses. <br />Though big sagebrush contributed the bulk of woody stem <br />counted, Utah juniper was the visually dominant species. Few <br />large Pinyon pine individuals are present, which serves to ex- <br />plain the low cover values and the community designation of <br />Juniper-Pinyon rather that the more familiar Pinyon-juniper. <br /> <br />• 2.04-29 July 1991 <br />
