UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE
• SOIL CONSERVATION SERVICE
6th & Albert Streets, Walsenburg, Colorado 81089
February 15, 1980
Mr. Charles McNeil
;e Perms Resources Corp.
105 E. gioxa Suite 200
Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903
Please be advised that there ie no prime farmlands involved in the area
you propose to strip mine in Huerfano County. None of this lend qualifies
- as unique land either. The reason that some of the better soils involved
do not meet the requirements for prime farmland is that there is no
irrigation xater available and natural precipitation ie too limited.
Your question in regards to flood irrigation of the area is best anaxered
by no, idhen xater for irrigation could be diverted out of the arroyos it
has generally already rained and the seeded grasses xould not require any
more, In this area the feasibility of an irrigation project based on the
dry arroyos is very questionable. Obtaining a permit or approval of the
State Engineer to do that is doubtful.
•
Seeding, Recommendations
Fertilizer - Minimum 40 lbs. available nitrogen and 40 lbs. available
P2o5 per acre. This is best based on laboratory analysis
dust prior to seeding.
Mulch - M;n;nn,m of 4000 lba, per acre of native grfi99 hay that is
not moldy, or rotten and is rather long leafed, approxinatelp
8", If grass hay is not available small grain atrax may be
used. The mulch material should be anchored xith a dick type
implement.
Seed Recommendations - Double rates of seed is broadcast.
Sandy Soils lbs.
