<br />To contro] resprouting of sal;cedar and other Tamarix species, bigleaf maple,
<br />tanoak, Oregon myrtle; and other susceptible species,,apply undiluted Garton 4 to
<br />wet the cambium and adjacent wood around the entire circumference of the cut
<br />stump. Treatmeaa may be applied throughout the year, however, control may be
<br />reduced with treatment during periods of moisture stress as in late summer. Use
<br />an applicator which can be calibrated to deliver the small amounts of material
<br />requved.
<br />Note: All basal bark and dormant bmsh vestment methods may be used [o vwt
<br />susceptible woody species on range and permanrnt pasture land provided that no
<br />more than L5 quarts of Garton 4 are applied per acre. Large plants or species
<br />requiring higher races of Gazlon 4 may no[ be wmplecely cpnholled.
<br />Forest Management Applications
<br />For broadcast applications apply the recommended rate of Garton 4 in a total spmy
<br />vohune of 5 to 25 gallons per acre by air or ]0 m 100 gallons per acre by ground.
<br />Use spray volumes sufficient m provide thorough coverage of treated foliage. Use
<br />application systems designed to prevent spmy drift to off-target sites. Nozzles
<br />or additives that produce largo droplet/ may require higher spmy volumes m
<br />provide adequate coverage.
<br />Plant Back Interval for Conifers: Conifers planted sooner than 1 month after
<br />treatment with Garton 4 at less than 4 quarts per acre or sooner than 2 months
<br />after treatment at 4 m 8 quarts per acre may be injured. When tank mixtures of
<br />herbicides arc used for forest site preparation, labels for al] products in the mixture
<br />should be consulted and the longest recommended waiting period observed.
<br />Broadcast Treatmenes for Forest Site Preparation (Not For Conifer Release)
<br />Southern States Including Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia,
<br />Louisiana, Maryland, Mksiuippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Car-
<br />olina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia: To control suscepnblc woody plena
<br />and broadleaf weeds, apply Garton 4 at a rate of 4 m 8 quarts per acre. To
<br />broaden the spectrum of woody plants and broadleaf weeds controged, apply 2
<br />to 4 quarts per acre of Garton 4 m tanlt mix combination with labeled rates of
<br />Tordon ]Ol Mbtmre or Tordon K Tordon 101 Mixture and Tordon K arc not
<br />regisered for use in the sates of California and Florida. Where grass control is
<br />also dewed, Gazlon 4, alone or in combination with Tordon K or Totdon 10]
<br />Mixnue, may be ank mixed with labeled rates of othtt herbicides registered for
<br />gross conno] in foreses. Use of teak mix produces must be vt accordance with the
<br />most rcsvictive of label limitations and prerautions. No label application rates
<br />should be exceeded. Garton 4 cannot be tank mined with any product containing
<br />a label prohibition against such miring.
<br />In Western, Northeasterq North Central, anti Lake States (States Not Listed
<br />Above As Southern States): To wntrol susceptible woody plans and broadleaf
<br />weeds, apply Garton 4 a[ a urea of 3 to 6 quarts per acre. To broaden the spectrum
<br />of woody plans and broadleaf weeds controlled, apply 1 S to 3.0 quarts per acre
<br />of Garton 4 in tank mix combination with labeled races of Tordon ]01 Mrxture,
<br />Tordon K, or 2,4-D ]ow volatile ester. Tordon 10J Mixture and Tordon K arc not
<br />reginer<d for use in tfie states ofCalifomia and Florida. Where gross control is also
<br />desired, Garton 4, alone or in tank mix combination with Tordon 101 Mixture
<br />or Tordon K, may be applied wish labeled rotes of other hefiicides registered
<br />for gross control in forcses. Whrn applying tank mixes, follow applicable use
<br />drections and precautions on tech product label.
<br />Applications for Site Preparation in Southern Caasral Flatwoads: 7o conno]
<br />susc<pdble broadleaf weeds and woody species such as galiberry and wax-myrde,
<br />and for partial wntro] of saw-paknetto, ap~ty 2 to 4 quarts per arse of Garton 4.
<br />To broaden the spectrum of species contro led to include fenerbush, staggefiush,
<br />tiff, and grasses, appy 2 to 3 quarts per acre of Gallon 4 in tank mix combmation
<br />with labeled rotes of Arsenal Applicator's Concentrate herbicide. Where control
<br />of gallbcrry, wax-myrtle, broadleaf weeds, and grasses is desired, 2 m 3 quarts
<br />per acre of Garton 4 may be applied in tank mix combination with labeled rotes
<br />of Accord herbicide.
<br />These treatrnenes may be broadcast during site preparation of flat planted or bedded
<br />sites or, on bedded situ, applied in bands over the top of beds. For best rcsula,
<br />make applications m ]ate summer or fall. Efficacy may not be wtistgetory whoa
<br />applications arc made in early season prior to August. Note: Do not apply after
<br />planting pioes.
<br />Applications for Conifer Release
<br />Note: Applications for conifer release may cause temporary damage and growth
<br />suppression where contact with conifers occur, however, injured conifers should
<br />recover and grow normally. Over-the-top spray applications can kill pines.
<br />Directed Sprays
<br />To release conifers from competing hardwoods and bmsh such as red maple,
<br />sugaz maple, striped maple, swee[gum, red and white oaks, ash, hickory, alder,
<br />birch, aspen, pin cherry, Ceanothus app., blackberry, chinquapin, and poison oak,
<br />mix 4 ro 20 quarts of Garton 4 in enough water m make 100 gallons of spray
<br />mixture. This spmy should be directed onm foliage of competinve hardwoods
<br />using knapsack or backpack sprayers with flat fan nozzles or cquvalent anytime
<br />after the hardwoods and bmsh have reached full leaf size, but before autumn
<br />coloration. The majority of vested hardwoods and bmsh should be less than 6
<br />feet in height m ensure adequate spmy coverage. Care should be taken m dirzet
<br />spray solutions away from conifer foliage, parocularly foliage of desirable pines.

<br />of Garton 4.in tank mix combination with labeled rotes of Arsenal AppEcator's
<br />Concentrate. Saw-palmetto will be partially controlled by use of Gazloa 4 at 4
<br />quarts per acre or by mixtures of Garton 4 at 2 m 3 quarts per acre in esnk mix
<br />combination with either Arsenal Applicator's Concentmce or Eswrt herbicide.
<br />These mixtures should be broadcast applied over mrget undersmry bmsh species,
<br />but to prevent injury to pioes, make applications uoderoeeth the foliage
<br />of pines. It is recommended that sprays be applied in 30 or more gallons yet
<br />acre of mat volume. For best results, make applrcations in late summer or fall.
<br />Efficacy may not be satisfactory when applications arc made in early season prior

<br />Broadcast ApplCations for Conifer Release in the Pacific Northwest and
<br />California
<br />On Dormant Conifers Before Bud Swell (Excluding Pines): To control or
<br />suppress deciduous hardwoods such as vine maple, bigleaf maple, aldtt, scotch
<br />broom, or willow before leafout or evergreen hardwoods such as madrone,
<br />chinquapin, and Ceanorhus spp., use Garton 4 at 1 to 2 quarts per acre. Diluents
<br />used may be diesel or fuel oil, Or, water plus 1 m 2 gallons per acre of diesel
<br />oil or a suitable surfactant or oil substitute at manufacturer's rccommrnded tutu
<br />may be used.
<br />On Conifer Planmtions (Excluding pioes) After Hardwoods Begin Growth
<br />and Before Conifer Bud Break ("Early Fohar"Hardwood Stage): Use Garton
<br />4 at 1.0 m 1 S quarts alone or plus 2,4-D low volatile ester herbicide in water
<br />tamer m provide no mare than 3 pounds acid equivalent per acre from both
<br />products. After conifer bud break, these splays may cause more serious injury
<br />m the crop trees. Use of a surfactant may cause unacceptable injury to conifers
<br />especially after bud brook.
<br />Oo Conifer Plantations (Excluding Pines) After Conifers Harden Off In Late
<br />Summer and WhOe Hardwoods Are Still Growing Actively: Use Garlon4 at
<br />rotes of 1.0 to 1.5 quarts per acre alone or plus 2,4-D low volatile ester to provide
<br />no more than 3 pounds acid equivalent per acre from both products. Tttat as soon
<br />afar conifer bud hardening as possible so the[ hardwoods and brush are activety
<br />growing. Use of oil, oil substitute, or surfactant may cause unacceptable injury
<br />to the conifrrs.
<br />Broadcast Applications for Conifer Release in the Esstero United States
<br />To release sprocq fu, red pine, and white pine from competing hardwoods such
<br />as red maple, sugar maple, striped maple, alder, birch (white, yellow, and grey),
<br />aspen, ash, pin cherry, and Rubes app. and perennial and annual broadleaf weeds,
<br />use Garton 4 at races of I.5 to 3.0 quarts per acre alone or plus 2,4-D amine or
<br />low volatle ester to provide no more than 4 pounds acid equivalent per acre from
<br />both products. Applications should be made to late summer or early fall after
<br />conifers have formed their overwintering buds and hardwoods arc m full leaf and
<br />prior m autumn colomtion.
<br />Broadcast Applications for Conifer Relesu io the Lake States Region
<br />7o release sprocq fir, and red pine from competing hardwoods such as aspen,
<br />birch, maple, cherry, willow, oak, hazel, and Rebus app. and perennial and annual
<br />broadleaf weeds, use Garton 4 at tutu of 1.5 [0 3.0 quota per acre. Applications
<br />should be made in late summer or early fall after conifers have formed that/
<br />overwincering buds and hardwoods arc in full leaf and prior to autumn colomtion.
