Bear Coal Company agreed to set up a monitoring program to
monitor revegetation success at Bear No. 1 and Bear No. 2.
This monitoring program will be kept on file for inspection
by the Division. Again, the area in question will be the
area under Bear Coal Company's responsibility. Bear Coal
Company stated that top soil from the river channel
realignment was not analyzed, but was used for topsoil in
the revegetation zones at Bear No. 1 and No. 2. The
Division stated that revegetation success in those areas
could determine soil suitability. Therefore, it was
suggested that this be tied into the vegetation monitoring
program. If the soil was determined not to be suitable,
then other methods such as fertilization would need to be
implemented.
