The pit site was
formerly an agricultural area. The terrain is flat with wet
meadow on the southern part of the property. The entire
area has been irrigated in the past for pasture of livestock.
Most of the vegetation is agriculturally associated. Over
90% of the area was in agriculture production in the past:
Topsoil Examination
Five typical soil samples of the surface six-inch topsoil
zone were taken and were analyzed by the Soil Conservation
Service of Gunnison. They found three types of soil present
on the site. The three types are Irim loam (IrA), Gas Creek
sandy loarri (GaA), and Fola cobbly sandy loam (FeB).
The Irim loam and Gas Creek sandy loam are located in the
pasture area. The soil acidity (pH) is 7.7 and the specific
conductivity is 1333 micro mhos/cm.
Vegetation
In what was formerly the pasture area, plant density is
moderate. A few cotton wood trees thrive along the north
Page 19 of 66
