Carew h1cFa11
25600 Lalanne Court
Los Altos Hills, CA 94022
Dear Mr. McFall:
The physical extent of the 3 saline areas (see map) can be visually
located by the identification of the following plait species:
A. Chrysothamnus viscidiflorus (Rabbit Brush)
B. Agrpyron smithii (l•;estern 4•lheatgrass)
C. Sarcobatus vermiculatus (Greaseo-+ood)
D. Distichlis spicata (Saltgrass)
-SGGit
These saline areas represent a very small proportion of the total lard
area.
The "mine spoil" samples were taken from the mine area SE of the "9153"
elevation mark. Two samples were taken on the basis of surface ~,-+-~i~~
color. The "Black" sample had a very sandy texture with conside,-obly
higher iron content (1JH4HC0 extractable). l•Jestern lJheatorass can be
found growing in these area .
The soil description for the Cryorthents (X-50) soil series amen by the
SCS office does not accurately describe those soils in the "horseshoe"
area overlying the coal seams. Some of these soils are Flue'_sch (X-15-1;E).
The enclosed nap _ro~t:s this ~'~s,-~-=~'-~:c, clesrly. The
vegetation is also similar to that observed on the Fluetsch soils.
