Cottony
Division Director
NaNral Resource Trustee
You will recall that National King Coal, LLC, recent proposed exploration that would
involve reopening the closed Burnwell Mine near Durango. They proposed to removed
the bat doors installed by the Division, inspect the initial thousand feet of the mine and
possibly perform some rehabilitation work.
We informed the Mine Safety and Health Administration about the proposal in case the
agency has any concerns or feels they should be involved in the oversight of the proposed
process.
Attached is a copy of the response letter from Allyn Davis. In short, the MSHA does feel
that that any activity in this mine falls under their purview.
If you have any questions or comments, please contact me.
Office of Office of Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation Active and Inactive Mines Geological Survey
