Ptse fC-~
Project Name: Fish Creek Borehole Si[e Culverts Prepared by: D1K Dale: 3/27/00
Project Number: 1342845.06180100 Checked by:TJ(, Date: 3 Jo 9p
Purpose: The purpose of this calculation brief is to design culverts at the low water crossings stationed
• along the fish creek borehole access road. As requested by Twentymile Coal Company (TCC),
Montgomery Watson has designed culverts #3 through #9 located at the Stations as shown on Table I, Fish
Creek Culverts Design Summary.
Methodology: TCC supplied Montgomery Watson with peak flow quantities based on the 10-year, 24-
hour storm even[. These peak Flow quantities were used in the design of the culverts. The design peak
flows were developed in 1995 and submitted to the DNR as part of TR 94-18. (Table B, Culvert and Low
Water Crossings, from TR 94-18 is attached to this submittal in Attachment I) Table ], Fish Creek
Culverts Design Summary, summarizes the culvert designs for culverts #3 through #9.
The culverts were designed using the inlet control nomograph for corrugated metal pipes (cmp) developed
by the Bureau of Roads in 1963. This nomograph is recommended in the National Engineers Handbook,
Section 4, Hydrology (1972) and has been used for other culvert designs at TCC. The culverts were
designed as projecting entrances with a HW/D = I
•
TABLE 1, FISH CREEK CULVERTS DESIGN SUMMARY
Culvert # Location Peak Flow
(cfs) HW/D Culvert Size
(in)
3 8+50 3.9 1 IS
4 18 +50 3.9 1 I8
5 28+00 8.2 1 21
6 39+50 3.3 1 IS
7 46+00 2.l I 15
R 62 + 00 0.3 I 12
9 74 + 00 0.3 I 12

Note: The minimum culvert size recommended is 12 in.
CERTIFICATION
I, DANIEL KEUSCHER, STATE THAT THE INFORMATION P
THROUGH FC-8 WAS PREPARED BY ME AND IS CORRECT
KNOWLEDGE AND INFORMATION.
3~3a 2ooa
DATE
DANIEL
PAGES FC-1
~R~~/ Y
' ).
