._ .

Septic tank absorption fields of conventional size do not function
i
properly on this unit., Use of long absorption lines and sandy backfill for
the trench helps to crompensate for the restricted permeability.
Special design problems are encountered when installing septic tank
absorption fields on steep slopes. If septic teak absorption fields .are
placed in bedrock, the effluent. may not be adequately filtered and may also
surface in downslope areas.
If buildings are constructed on this unit, properly designing
foundations and footings and diverting runoff away from buildings help to
prevent structural damage because of shrinking and swelling. The effects of
shrinking and swelling can be reduced Dy maintaining a constant moisture
content around the fourdation. Backfilling excavation with material that
has Iow shrink-swell potential can also r+sduce the effects of shrinking and
swelling. Cuts needed to provide essentially level building sites can
expose bedrock. Nomes should be designed to conform to the present
landscape to keep foundation cuts to a minimum.
Roads and streets should be designed to offset the effects of shrinking
and swelling and low strength by using materials of lax shrink-swell
potential and high strength. Roads and streets should be designed to keep
cuts to a minimum, to keep grades to less than B percent, and to provide
drainage outlets for excess water runoff.
Brush management improves deteriorated areas of range that are producing
more woody shrubs flan were present in the potential plant community.
Management practices suitable for use on this unit are proper grazing
use and a planned grazing system.
This mapping unit is in capability subclass VIe. It is in Clayey
Foothills range site.
