~....:.
• availabilin and other facrors. Qf prime importance to changing send mixtures and rarer ~siil be
the evaluation of initial reve~etation success.
Land Management
Noxious Plant Control
Noxious plants found on the permit area will be controlled throughout the life of the operation [o
reduce the seed source available to invade reclaimed areas. Revegetated areas will be qualita[iveh
evaluated annually to assess noxious plant populations. A weed control plan will be developed
in accordance with the Noxious Weed i\fanagement Act in cooperation with the Stare of Colorado.
Las Animas County, and CDMG. ivlonitoring and control of noxious plants nn both rangeland
and reclaimed areas and land management practices to prevent their establishment will effectiveh
limit noxious plant populations.
Livestock Grazing Controls
Livestock grazing kill be restricted during operations and the reclamation liability period. Timing
of grazing will be deterniined jointl}~ by LCC and the CDMG. Livestock damage to revegetation
will be controlled as necessary by selectise fencing or other management techniques. Normal
• range management practices will be used as necessary [u enhance the value of revegetated areas.
Revegetation Success Criteria
Revegetation success will be based on the comparison of revegetated commwnities to
corresponding umnined reference area communities. LCC will utilize an extended reference area
(ERAI approach comprised of undisturbed areas within the intensive vegetation baseline imentorv
area. il'lap 2.04.10-1 shows the disturbed areas superimposed on the vegetation community rape
map. Undisturbed areas form the ERA.
LCC will manase extended reference areas to achiese at least fair ranu~e condition. The Las .-~tiimas
MRCS has provided two range site descriptions applicable to the soils underling the extended
reference areas: Loam.' Foothill (2021 and Shallops Foothill (;~20=4). Annual production during
unfavorable sears for these areas is estimated at S00 and 300 Ib/ac. respectively. To achiese fair
ranee condition the ARCS su~~eests the Climax Ve~~e[ation should be maintained within the ranuz
of 26 to ~0 percent, respectiveh . For Joann' foothill soils, this corresponds to grazing lesels of 0.13
[0 0?a AU~t/ac. for shallo~~ foothill soils. this number ranees from 0.03 [0 0.1 I AL ~[iac. LCC
mana~_ement of extended reference areas kill meet these lesels to maintain at least fair rangz
conditions.
,,,- 2.0~-'I (revised 6/30!9?t
Li uv~, .,
