Because
water will only be needed for dust control and duet control needs varies
tremetidouely with many different factors, it ie very difficult if not
impos:iible to provide a meaningful estimate of the volume of water that
will t>e needed. For this reason about the only meaningful statement
that c:an be made is that water will be supplied as needed. The volume
could be none one day and 10,000 gallons the next.
No water is avallable on site. Although the agricultural land to
the north consumes prodigious amounts of irrigation water and water
might be available there, we suspect the designated use of any water in
that area is probably of the wrong type to use for dust control in a
mine. Although considerable savings in haulage could be achieved if
water of the proper use type was available, and this will be checked
out, at this time all that can be said confidently is the same thing
told Pueblo County. Water for the operation will be hauled either from
the pr~ceseing plant in Pueblo or will be purchased from the St. Charles
Water :district that serves the needs of residents in this area. The
locati~~n where water trucks would actually acquire the water would be
determined by agreement with the water district.
No washing is anticipated to occur on this site. Therefore, water
for processing will not be needed unless at some time in the future
washin€; is incorporated. Of course, if washing is done then settling
ponds would be needed and this would probably require some modification
in the reclamation permit. At that time, the water needs for washing
could tie addressed more precisely. Washing systems, unlike dust control
systems, usually are based on an amount of consumption that can be
fairly accurately predicted.
Another factor that enters into an inability to state how much
water would be needed for duet control is the question of whether only
water is used or whether chemical duet control applications are used.
It appears that more and more chemical control is being used because it
can lava a lot of money over using just water. But it too has its
variations in the amount of water needed.
Item 5: Commitment to the reseeding proposals.
RESPONSE: The intent of describing the various approaches to
revegete~tion was to provide a commitment to using those approaches.
Because different conditions and circumstances can dictate different
approaches at any one seeding period, a variety of methods were
