Broderick &
Gibboiza, State Pit, Pueblo County.
Your :?ile No.: M-90-112.
Dear ])an:
Thank you for your letter on Broderick & Gibbons' State Pit application.
Following are the responses to your four items and questions regarding
this cpplication. The responses follow a format of paraphrasing each of
your items followed by the response.
Item 1: Concerns regarding the disturbed acreage and bonding of the
operation, with a request for redescription of the disturbance pattern
in accordance with the Major/Moderate/Minor method of delineation.
RESPOb'SE: First, please recognize the 755 acres of affected land is not
defined in terms of areas that will be mined. The affected land
boundary includes mining areas, the initial plant Bite which does not
contain gravel, and a buffer area beyond the limits of the actual
deposit. The actual limp of mining is within the Cascajo soil type.
Although the Cascajo soil is derived from the gravel deposit, its extent
is actually somewhat greater than the extent of the gravel. Thie is due
to erosion carrying gravels down slope from the gravel outcrop producing
a thin veneer of gravelly soil in places where no mineable gravel
exists.
You calculated the amount of land to be mined per year by dividing
the affected land by the estimated life of the mine. Broderick &
Gibbons believe this value should be calculated by dividing the
estimated average annual production by the potential production of an
acre of gravel.
