The rack strata, consisting of interbedded shales <br />and sandstones, dips approximately. 6 percent to the north, <br />The impermeable shale layers dipping away from the river would <br />limit any percolation of groundwater. For this reason the inter- <br />ception of water in Somerset Mine is not considered to have <br />an impact on the North Fork of the Gunnison kiver. <br />U. S.
