A mulch of wood chips will be approximately 1 to 3 <br />inches. <br />On north-facing areas Douglas Fir and Ponderosa Pine will be <br />planted. Douglas Fir can be spaced between 20 and 40 feet apart. <br />Ponderosa Pine should be separated frcm Douglas Fir by about 20 <br />to 35 feet and about 90 feet from each other. In these areas we <br />plan to use a ratio of Ponderosa Pine to Douglas Fir of about 1 <br />to 3. <br />Some shrubs will also be planted. We expect the best <br />success will occur with Mountain ltlahogany. We plan to collect <br />seed from nearby areas and broadcast the seed in the desired <br />area. The seed will be collected in September or Cetober and <br />seeded immediately. Seeding Fvill be done by hand v+ith seed <br />amounts thzt mill provide about 5 to 10 seeds per syuare foot. It <br />is likely that only about one seed in every 500 will produce a <br />mature plant. The above rate will provide a mature canopy cover <br />of about 60 to i5 percent. <br />Organic mulches can be of value i[ available. On this site <br />strev; is nct recommended because of its high cost s.nd difficulty <br />of keeping it in place in such ti~indy areas.
