It is expected that the Walstrum Mine will be excavated in
t~vo stages. Mining will be initiated along the northern
two-thirds of the west end and will progress to the east. The
first stage will aY[ect a relatively small parcel of
approximately 15.47 acres; the second stage will involve the
remainder of the effected land.
In order to screen from view the base operations, the
processing, concrete, asphalt and casting plants, and as much of
the mining activity as possible, the operator has designed the
mine to leave berms of approximately 160 feet in height along U.
S. 6 (see Map Exhibit F). The base level and the mine floor will
vary from approximately 7,200 feet in the southeast to
approximately 7,270 feet at the highest point of the mine floor
in the northeast corner; at the west end the elevation is
approximately 7,420 feet. Grading will be such that drainage of
the interior area will be toward the existing natural drainage
courses at the west end. Along U. S. 6 drainage will continue es
it is currently.
Setbacks on the north, east and southeast sides of the mine
area will be 50 feet from the property line. Along U. S. 6
setbacks will vary from 175 feet to 250 feet, except at the
entrance to the mine. On the west side an entrance road will be
constructed along the property line by excavating and widening
the existing ravine at the west end
Existing drainage in the
ravine will be maintained.
8
