September 15, 1993
Honeywood Coal Company
P.O. Box 587
Nucla, Colorado 81424
Gentlemen:
As the owners of the surface property that was mined at the
Hamilton Mine, we would like to comment on the reclamation plan as
it relates to reclamation of the roads on the property. We
understand that the reclamation plan may require that the roads
that remain on the property be narrowed to width of 15 to 20 feet.
We do not want the roads to be narrowed. We view the thirty foot
wide roads as an asset that can be used as an important part of our
ranching operation.
The wide roads with the hard gravel surfacing are ideal for use
during the winter months. They will provide safe reliable access
• to the area. They will be safer because of their width. They will
provide reliable access because of their good hard surface that
will not become a muddy mess during winter and spring thaws. The
wide roads will also provide a good surface on which to feed our
cattle. This wide hard surface is ideally suited for use as a feed
area. On a wide hard packed road, feed can be evenly distributed
and the loss of feed due to muddy conditions will be minimized.
We cannot understand why Honeywood would be required to ruin a
perfectly good road. Please let us know if you need additional
help so we can have the land reclaimed the way we want it.
Sincerely,
Ro M. Davis
Bets Davis
•
1
'I
