Section 779.15 (a) Continued.
•
Revised 11/20/80
Map 15a, Kerr Mine Area Ground Water Hydrology. As shown, the
outcrop of the base of the Sudduth coal seam delineates the hori-
zontal extent of the aquifer.
k
A system of 28 bedrock monitor wells has been installed near the e'
r
outcrop on both sides of the synclinal basin. Certain of these+"~
e~
wells, such as 79-1, 79-2, and 79-3, were installed in the over-
burden where ground water was encountered. Most of the monitor
wells penetrate the coal aquifer. The permeability of the coal
aquifer has been determined through pump tests on certain of the
monitor wells. The results of these tests are listed in Table 9,
Kerr Mine Area Aquifer Characteristics, and the data collected is
included in Exhibit 54, Aquifer Test Data. Data from the tests
confirm that the coal seam is moderately permeable only where it
has been fractured. The local fracture permeability is variable
throughout the mine plan area, and is most pronounced in the fault
• zone, shown on Map 15a, Kerr Mine Area Ground Water Hydrology, in
Section 26, Township 9N, Range 78W. Where the coal aquifer is not
faulted, it has an average permeability of 3.8 gallons per day per
square foot, storage coefficient of 6.8 x 10-4, and an average
yield of less than 10 gallons per minute.
