i
Section 779.14(a) Continued. Rule 2.04.6
Kerr samples ranged from 1.50 meq/100g with a mean value of 19.42
meq/100g. The weighted mean value is 20.54 meq/100g. For the USGS
samples, the CEC values ranged from 3.40 meq/100g to 55.6 meq/100g with
a mean value of 21.76 meq/100g and a weighted mean value of 20.92
meq/100g. For the 50 BLM samples collected from regraded spoil the CEC
values averaged 26.76 meq/100g with a range of 8.3 megj100g to 38.9
meq/100g.
Lime (CaCO,). A total of 54 Kerr samples were analyzed with respect to
lime. Lime values are relatively low, ranging from 0.00 to 7.3 percent
with a mean value of 1.62 percent. Although the Montana guidelines set
no limits on lime, all of the lime values for overburden samples are well
below the 30 percent limit set Forth in the Myoming Guidelines. No
potential toxicity problems are anticipated with respect to lime for
• either groundwater quality or topsoil suitability.
or n (B). A total of 54 Kerr samples were analyzed with respect to
boron. Yalues for boron are well below the limits of 8.0 ppm set forth
in the Montana Guidelines or 5.0 ppm set forth in the Myoming Guidelines.
Boron values ranged from 0.00 to 2.50 ppm with a mean value of 0.21 ppm.
No toxicity problems are anticipated with respect to boron.
I
Molybdenum (Mo). A total of 54 Kerr samples were analyzed with respect
to molybdenum. Values for total molybdenum ranged from 0.0 ppm to 11.0
ppm with a mean value of 1.04 ppm. Twenty-three values are above the
limit of 0.3 ppm set forth in the Montana Guidelines. Although these
values appear to be elevated in relation to the Montana limit, Myoming has
established no limit. In consideration of the conclusion by Gough and
Shacklette (1976) that 'there are no recorded instances of field
occurrence of molybdenum toxicity to plants', it is apparent that the
Montana values may be lower than necessary. kith respect to leaching,
the molybdenum values are relatively low, and molybdenum has a low
solubility. This is demonstrated by the fact that, of all ground and
779-24 a
