-4 0-
This unit is well suited to windbreaks and environmental plantings.
Soil blowing can reduced by cultivating only in the tree rows and by
leaving a strip of vegetation between the rows. Supplemental irrigation
may be needed when planting and during dry periods. Among the trees
suitable for planting are Siberian elm, Ricky Mountain juniper, ponderosa
pine, and ldissian-olive. Among the shrubs are lilac and plum.
If this unit is used for homesite develognent, the main limitation is
the shrink-swell potential. The effects of shrinking and swelling can be
minimized by using proper engineering designs and by backfilling
excavations with material that has low shrink-swell potential.
This unit is in capability subclass IVe. It is in Loamy Plains range
site.
