eh
ESPEY, HUSTON & ASSOCIATES, INC.
CJ
limitations aze severe enough to make the use of the soil questionable. Engineering
designs to overcome the limitations are difficult and expensive.
Soils were rated for their suitability as a source of roadfill, sand, gravel,
topsoil, borrow and cover material. The suitability was rated in terms of good, fair,
and poor, which pazallel the limitations terms of slight, moderate, and severe.
Evaluations for roadfill material are based on AASHO test data.
The soils also were rated for topsoil borrow and as cover for disturbed
areas. The difference is that in topsoil borrowing operations, the reclaimability of
the borrow azea must be considered. In evaluating a soil for cover for disturbed
azeas the soil is stripped and then used for reclamation of the same areas.
The soil features that affect their use aze shown in Table I-13. Depth,
• slope, permeability and water table affect their use in pond-reservoir azeas. Depth,
stoney material, susceptibility to piping, and shear strength affect their use for
dams, levees, and other embankment materials.
•
I-86
