III IIIIIIIIIIIII III
99_9
~~~ MINE AREA PONDS Doc Date:72/11/2001
•
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
There are three (3) sedimentation ponds and two (2) water storage ponds which
presently exist within the Southfield Mine area. Specifically, the ponds within the
mine area are:
- Sedimentation Pond No. 1
- Water Treatment and Recycle Pond No. 2
- Freshwater Pond No. 3
- Sedimentation Pond No. 4
- Sedimentation Pond No. 5
All sedimentation ponds are designed to contain surface runoff produced by the
10-year, 24-hour event and the required sediment yield. Each sedimentation pond
contains an emergency spillway designed to safely pass the peak discharge from
the 25-year, 24-hour event while maintaining on foot minimum freeboard. Ponds
2 and 3 are used in the preparation plant water-use system and are not designed
to contain surface runoff or sediment.
Each of the above mentioned ponds has been designed, approved, and certified
after construction. The SEDCAD+ computer model was utilized to design or
confirm the function of each pond. SEDCAD+ calculations for Sediment Ponds
Nos. 1, 4 and 5 are included in this exhibit.
All mine area ponds are shown on the Drainage and Sediment Control Map, (Map
20). Detailed design drawings for each pond are also contained in the permit and
are referenced, as appropriate, in this exhibit.
11 Revised M10/96
Minor Revision No. 30
