Traylor, M.D.
E:acutive Director
May 27, 1983
Mr. Allan Bean
Pittsburg and Midway Coal Mining Co.
1720 South Bellaire S[.
Denver, CO 80222
Dear Mr. Bean:
This letter is in response to your request to discontinue the air
monitoring program at the Edna Mine.
Three years of meteorological and particulate data have been collected
around the Edna Mine site. This high quality data has shown the particulate
concentrations [o be relatively low, so I see no reason to continue the
monitoring.
• According to people in the Division involved with issuing and
maintaining the Edna Mine permit, the monitoring was never an Air Pollution
Control Division requirement. The Division accepts your request to
discontinue the monitoring program contingent upon the approval from the
group who initiated the requirements. After speaking with Scott Hiller of
[he Division and people at the Colorado Mined Land Reclaimation Division it
is unclear to me whether it was a State or Federal Mined Land Reclaimation
permit requirement.
We are very pleased with your operation of the monitoring network. The
Division has referenced the data a number of times and it will be useful to
us in [he future. Thank you for your efforts in maintaining a yell run
system. It has been a pleasure to work with you.
Sincerely,
Beth K.
