Parkdale Project • III IVIIIIIIIIII III ~ Reclamation Permit
S/ x
Exhibit D -Mining Plan
1.0 Introduction
The proposed Pazkdale Project includes mining from three resource areas which are:
1) aggregate from the gravel bar, 2) granite from a quarry, and, 3) sandstone from a
small quarry, processing the mined material, and loading it for shipment primarily by rail
with local deliveries by truck. Mining operations are planned for one shift per day. A
second shift will be added during periods of heavy seasonal demand. Maintenance and
rail loading may be scheduled anytime. Truck loading will be limited to 12 hours per
day and no truck shipments will be scheduled during the period from noon on Saturday
until 6 a.m. Monday. The project has been designed to utilize natural topographic
screening to separate operations from Highway 50 to the extent possible. These activities
are described below and the overall layout of the project is shown on the Mining Plan
Map.
Initial activities at all disturbance sites will include topsoil salvage and placement into
stockpiles. Generally, some topsoil is available for salvage from the nearly level
processing areas while little is available from the yuarry sites. Disturbed sites will be
graded to be free-draining to small sediment ponds which will discharge via infiltration
and through check danis. These erosion control measures will be maintained for the life
of the project. Mining activities at each of the areas is described below.
1.1 Gravel Bar Aggregate Pit
The Gravel Bar Aggregate Pius are located south of Tallahassee Creek and north of the
Arkansas River. Course aggregate, decorative stone, sand, road base course, surfacing
and drainage fill aggregate products will be produced from these borrow pits as a part of
initial project mining activities.
Approximately 14 pGres of aggregate borrow pits will be developed at this site to meet
production requirements during the first 5 years of operation. Approximately 1,000,000
cubic yards will be developed from this resource during the first flue years of project
operations. Later phase project needs ma exult in disturbance to an additional 41.2
acres to develop an additional 3,000,000 cubic yards of aggregate. The pits will be
developed sequentially as product is required to meet market demand. The configuration
of borrow pits is shown on the Mining Plan Maps for Gravel Area A and B.
The shallow Gravel Bar Aggregate Pits will be mined by a combination of tracked and
rubber-tired heavy construction eyuipment including scrapers, dozers, end-loaders and
haul trucks. Minor amounts of overburden, where present, will be loosened where
necessary by ripping and it will be removed and transported by either scrapers or a loader
and haul truck operation. Where pos~ble, overburden will be directly placed eliminating
creation of stockpiles and double handling. All overburden will be placed into fills or
otherwise used in post-mining topography shaping. Following mining of an area, [hat
area will be concurrently reclaimed by grading, placement of topsoil and seeding.
r~-
~~,Z
~~ -
