I have
enclosed new exhibits for these items.
In checking back on my notes I found that the legal description was in fact
drawn up using the topographic map. The final maps were not completed at
that point. Normally, doing a legal description from a topographic map is
entirely satisfactory for quarter, quarter section definition, but where
the maps spans the boundaries of two maps, it can become rather confusing.
I am not exactly sure why, but in my experience, about 6 or 7 out of every
10 mining operations span two maps, and I have had one that was centered on
the union of four maps. One could almost search for minerals 6y first
checking lands along the boundaries of topographic maps and later looking
elsewhere.
The cross-sections have been further labelled. These were not labelled
because I thought it was rather evident which was the existing and which
was the reclamation, Very few sand and/or gravel operations will backfill
to a depth of 70 or 80 feet, so I thought it was evident which was which
and no labels were needed. But sometimes those of us who have been in this
business for so long tend to forget that those who are rather new to this
business are not always as familiar with the operational methodologies as
we are and we can tend to assume too much at times. Sorry about that.
Respectfully,
~j'//(NV"` ~ GMT'/~ti~
Mark A. Heffner
Encl.: New Exhibit A - 4 copies.
New Cross-sections (FF', GG', HH', II',JJ') - 4 copies.
