Parkdale Proiect ~ 5 • Reclamation Permit
All samples will be placed in clean polyethylene bags at the time of collection and
securely sealed for delivery to the laboratory. All efforts will be made to deliver the
samples to [he laboratory as soon as possible. When samples cannot be delivered within
24 hours of collection, samples will be air-dried. Approximately 48 hours can be
considered a sufficient time for air-dying. Samples will be dried in as dust-free of an
environment as is possible. All sample site locations will be noted on a project map.
Specific Procedures: Two composite samples, representing the 0 to 6 inch and 6 to 20
inch depths, will be taken from each stockpile constructed. For each set of samples, the
average slope and estimated percent coazse fragment content by volume will be noted.
Each sample will be analyzed for:
• pH • potassium (ppm)
• texture • electrical conductivity (mmhos/cm)
• percent organic matter • lime estimate
• NH4-N and NO3-N (ppm) • sodium adsorption ratio, if necessary
• phosphorus (ppm)
Accompanying each composite sample will be a brief discussion on the area from which
the sample was collected. The discussion should include comments concerning:
• plant species to be established,
• type of seedbed prepazation techniques to be implemented,
• type of mulching practices to be employed,
• approximate slope,
• any special problems or conditions,
• past and future land use considerations.
Fertilizer Broadcastine: Fertilizer will be broadcast over the seedbed using hand-
operated "cyclone-type" seeders or rotary broadcast equipment attached to construction
or revegetation machinery. All equipment used will be equipped with metering devices.
Fertilizer application will take place prior to f-mal seedbed preparation treatment to
ensure the incorporation of fertilizer into the seedbed. Fertilizer broadcasting operations
will not be conducted when wind velocities would interfere with even fertilizer
distribution.
Fertilizer will be applied at rates commensurate with recommendations resultant from
seedbed material sample analyses. The most soluble phosphorus fertilizer material
should be selected for use.
2.5 Seedbed Preparation
General Guidelines: The following general guidelines apply to soil replacement over the
project azea as a whole. During resoiling operations, soil will be redistributed in a
manner which: (1) achieves an approximate uniform thickness consistent with safety
