Groundstone <br />categories include manos (grinding stones), metates (nether <br />milling stones), and other groundstone. <br />• <br />• <br />Artifacts are both the by-products and the implements of <br />specific human activities and, thus, indicate that certain tasks <br />and actions occurred at a site. In some cases, conclusions can <br />be drawn concerning the frequency of certain activities; i.e., <br />a high volume of groundstone would indicate greater emphasis on <br />the collection and processing of floral materials. Statistical <br />analysis of the types of artifacts may be employed to illustrate <br />the patterning of site activities. Diagnostic and representa- <br />tive samples of artifacts will be illustrated in the final <br />report. Artifacts, notes. and photographs are expected to be <br />curated at the Museum of Western Colorado in Grand Junction. <br />Macro-floral, pollen, carbon and bone <br />specimens are expected to be collected. <br />specialized labs for analyses.
