Stover 6 Associates
743 Horizon Court, Suite 205
Grand Junction, CO 81506
Re: Lillyland Inc., Hamilton Mine Site
Dear Mr. Stover:
This office has reviewed the cultural resource report completed by Grand
River Institute for the above proposed project.
We concur that sites SMN3762, SMN3763, SMN3764, SMN3765 and SMN3766 are not
• eligible to the National Register of Historic Places. SMN3762, SMN3763 and
SMN3764 are small diffused lithic scatters that have been heavily disturbed
by manmade and natural activities. No diagnostic artifacts or features
are associated with these sites and there is little potential for
subsurface cultural materials. SMN3765 and SMN3766 are the remains of two
dugouts or root cellars that have lost their integrity through
deterioration. None of the above sites will yield information important to
prehistory or history.
We also concur that SMN3760 and SMN3761 need to be tested to determine the
existance and nature of any subsurface cultural remains before a final
determination of eligibility can be completed. Since these sites are
fairly large testing should consist of bcth shovel tests and forn;al lei
meter test pits.
We will withhold comment on project effects until the testing has been
complete or it is decided if avoidance of the sites is possible.
If we may be of further assistance please contact Jim Green at 866-4674.
Sincerely,
j~ /~
~~r James E.
