E X H 1 3 I? " D"
rl I N I riC al.nr]
'fhe area to be mined lion in thu High Plains area of [hc Arkansas River Vnllry
between Patterson 11.+I Inw and l'imnas Creek. "I'he nil is Incnted on a hiy;h tcrr. n.o
lying from 150 to 200 (cet above [hu adjacent stream vnllevs and is generally under-
lain by gravelly alluvial materials deposited by these streams in ancient times.
IC is presently used as range pasture and will he reclnimrd Cor that purnnse
after [he gravel depnsits have been removed.
The depusita will he exc:.rvated to an average depth of 15 feet, nrncessed cm
sigh[ and used in road cnnstnictinn throughout O[ern County.
After these terraces are removed, slopes will he shaved whereby a y,ently r,+lline
terrain will result.
The existinf; overburden of [hose depnsits are of such compositirn~ that it makes
excellent binding material for the county's road base material. Top soil will [he re Fn re
be hauled i.n from borrow pit cleaning and previously deposited blow dirt iron adjacent
county owned land [n be used in [he reclamation process after [he mini nit is comple[rd.
A substantial amount of topsoil has already been hauled and stockpiled ~+n site.
The subsurface stratum over which [he gravel deposits are located is made up of
consolidated and unconsolidated clay materials. The nit is currently being worked to
this depth.
As can be seen from the drawing, (Exhibit "') the pit area is not large enonf~h
accnmodate a phased reclamation clan. This is due to the large area needed in [he
pit bottom (or processing onera[irnis and the method in which the pi[ faces are worked
simultaneously to derive a well sorted agy;regate mixture.
In view of thesu facts we nLan to mine the terraces until [he deposit is exhausted
[hen rec]aim [he enti.rc area nt nnc time. AC this time i[ Is estimated the deposit
will List until the year '000 with [he county's currentcfemand from [his nit.
