Biomes production in this well-watered vegetation type (Table 10) war nol found wanting;
total production averaged 401.7 gm / ~1.m. (3580 1b /acre). Nebraska sedge (213.3 gm /
sq.m.) comprised slightly over half of this total, while that attributable to beaked sedge (18 i.8
gm / sq.m.) was most of the remainder.
3.1.4 MOUNTAIN BRUSH
Vegetation within this type is identified by dominance of serviceberry and Gambel oak in varying
relative proportions (Figure 6). Of the 74.0 total veaeiaiion cover (Table 11), 51.2 cover
was attributable to shrubs, the most abundant of which were Oambei oak (17.4 cover),
mountain snowberry (15.4• cover), end 5askaloon serviceberry (12.4 ~ cover). Minor
shrubs wish measurable cover included big sagebrush (Artemisie tridentate), true mountain
mahogany (Cercocerous montanus),chokecherry, antelope bitterbrush (Purshie tridentate).
end Woods rose.
. Perennial forks comprised 1 1.8~ cover, the largest contributions to which were made by
western yarrow, arrowlesf balsamrooi (Balsamorhiza sagittata), one-flower helianihelle
(Helianthella uniflore),end tailcup lupine (I-Ug1nU` caudatus). Ofthe other perennial forbs
present, the more abundant included nettleleaf giant-hyssop (Agasteche urticifolia), littleleaf
pussyloes (Antennaria microohvlla), gray ester (Aster alaucodes), an unidentified aster
(probably A. chilensi ), segolily (Calochortus nuitellii), showy daisy (Erigeron soeciosus),
white-flowered peavine, and Oreat Basin nemophila (Nemophila breviflore).
Perennial greminoid cover was 10.4; the major components of this cover were Y,entucky
bluegrass (3.Sf6 cover), sun sedge (1.8 cover), end Agessiz bluegrass (1.2 ~ cover). Other
species locally presentincluded bluebunch wheatgrass (Agroovron soicatum), slender
wheatgress (Agroovron tra:hvcaulum), pumpelly brume, wooly brume (Bromoosis leneiipes),
and green needlegrass (Stioa viridula).
As is typical in vegetation dominate try perennial vegetation in vigorous condition, annual and
biennial forbs end annual grasses ere only sparsely present (combined cover of 0.6~).
.•
Total herbaceous production (Table 12) in the Mountain Brush vegetation type was 87.4 qm /
-14-
