3.2 Evaluation of Soil Suitability for Reclamation
Table 3.2-1 is an evaluation of the suitability of each horizon of
each pedon tested for reclamation. The soils are rated suitable
(good, fair, poor) and unsuitable.
In every case but one, pH, EC, saturation percent SAR, calcium
carbonate and coarse fragments were rated good. The exception was
the subsoil of the Herm taxadjunet which was rated fair for calcium
carbonate. Chemically the soils are suitable for reclamation. The
soils tend to be clayey and as a result are hard; many are rated
fair to poor for texture and consistence. Clay textures and hard
consistence do not render a material unsuitable for reclamation use
and all the materials tested are considered suitable.
Soils not shown on table 3.2-1 are Ustollic Haplargids, Ustlc
Torriorthents and the Falfa. The Ustollic Haplargids and Ustic
Torriorthents were not recommended for salvage in the original report
because they occur on steep slopes and are cobbly. The Falfa series
recommendations are based on description and chemical analysis of the
Falfa taxadjunct (pedon 1) which is mophologically similar but
shallower than allowed for the Falfa.
• Information presented in table 3.2-1 for the Zyme series is from the
original report and CDS labs.

•
15
