6.0 PROPOSED EXPLORATION DRILL PROGRAM
' 6.1
EXPLORATION DRILL HOLES
This Exploration Drilling Program includes 98 drill holes. The exploration drill hole locations are
shown on Figure 6-1 and on Map 1 in the pocket of this report, along with the estimated
overburden, estimated coal outcrop line and the land ownership boundary between federal and
private land. These holes were selected based upon: overburden and total depth of the
proposed holes; their proximity to the outcrop line; and an average of 800-foot spacing and their
location on federal land. The prognosis of the exploration drill holes is listed in Table 6-1.
6.2 EXPLORATION METHOD
WFC's goal in conducting this coal exploration program is to further explore an area, for which
some coal information exists. From former drill holes (Eakins, 1986), there is known coal in the
vicinity, and WFC would like to further explore the quality and quantity of the prospect for
potential development.
6.2.1 Method
Since this is the first detailed investigation of the area, WFC proposes a phased program. WFC
proposes to drill about thirty holes initially to ascertain if the justification exists to complete the
drilling of all proposed exploration holes. The holes will be drilled with a truck mounted drilling
rig (comparable in size to a Gardner Denver 1000 or 1500). All drilling will be done with
air/mist/foam and the rig will have a mud pump to facilitate mixing and pumping mud for hole
plugging and abandonment. Cuttings will be used in plugging the holes and will be collected
and described (lithology) for five-foot intervals.
Drilling will commence with a 5-1/8" or 5-3/4" diameter pilot hole through the coal to
approximately twenty meters (sixty feet) below the coal seam. Immediately after the holes are
drilled, a bentonite slurry (drilling mud: 50 second Marsh funnel viscosity) will be pumped into
the hole for purposes of conditioning and stabilizating the hole. The rig will then move off the
hole. Each hole will then be logged with geophysical tools (natural gamma ray, gamma-gamma
density, resistivity, and caliper). Soon after the drilling has been completed, about one out of
every five holes will be "twinned" and core drilled through the coal.
Third Park Exploration License Application 16
