• MANAGEMENT SUMMARY
On September 25, 1995 Robert Peterson, WCRM field supervisor, surveyed a small
pazcel of land immediately east of the Mountain Coal Company West Elk Mine. The
area is proposed for expansion of the lower refuse pile. It consists of approximately 16
acres, mainly on steep brush covered slopes. The purpose of the inventory was to
identify, document, and evaluate cultural resources within the project area. A literature
seazch at the Colorado Office of Archaeology and Historic Preservation revealed that a
small portion of the project area had been surveyed on two occasions. Neither of these
surveys reported any cultural resources within the project azea.
No prehistoric or historic cultural remains were observed within the project area during
the WCRM survey. No further archaeological work is therefore recommended for this
pazcel.
C_~
•
ii
