Mottles are visible at 26 inches but they are
usually found closer to the surface.
Winevada Series
The Winevada Series consists of moderately deep to deep, well-drained, loamy
soil occurring on moderately To strongly sloping mid-slopes and ridges. The soils of
this series are formed in colluvium of shale and sandstone origin at elevations of 6,750
and 7,600 feet. Permeability is moderate. These soils may be found in Sections 30
and 31, T.SN R.85W.
Typically, The surface horizon consists of a dark brown loam 9 to 21 inches
thick, containing about 20 percent gravels. The subsoil is a brown or dark grayish
brown sandy clay loam or clay loam. This horizon extends from 32 to 57 inches.
Fractured sandstone is typically encountered between 20 and 40 inches depth.
Substratum material consists of yellowish brown or pale brown weathered sandstone.
WINEVADA TYPIC PEDON PROFILE !/
• Loam 05-02-04-013
A typical pedon (05-02-04-013) of the Winevada loam, 8 to IS percent slope, a
2.3-132
