Darker colors and
a thicker A horizon contribute to this. More coarse fragments occur in the surface
horizon of other pedons. The argillic horizon is usually a brown or a dark brown fine
sandy clay loam or heavy clay loam; in this soil the argillic has a brighter color of
10 YR 5/3. The argillic is thicker in this pedon, it usually ranges about 14 inches
thick.
Unnamed Series 68
This unnamed Series 68 consists of moderately deep to deep, well-drained, loamy
soil. They occur on gently sloping to moderately steep sloping ridges, side-slopes of
ridges and narrow draws at elevations of 6,650 to 7,075 feet. The soil is formed in
material weathered from sandstone. Permeability is moderate. These soils are found
extensively in Sections I I and 14, T.SN R.86W.
Typically, the surface horizon is a dark brown to brown fine sandy loam ranging
in thickness from 3 to I7 inches. The subsoil is a dark grayish brown or dork brown
sandy clay loam. The argillic horizon is found within 5 to 19 inches below the surface.
The substratum varies in texture from clay loam to gravelly sandy loam, and has pale
brown to yellowish brown colors. The depth of the profile varies from 30 inches to
greater than S feet.
UNNAMED SERIES 68 TYPIC PEDON
Sandy Loam
PROFILE //
05-04-22-042
A typical pedon (OS-04-22-042) of the Unnamed Series 68 sandy loam, 8 to 15
2.3-116
