• KERR COAL MINE
IRRIGATION FEASIBILITY STUDY
FOR MINE AND ADJACENT AREAS
INTRODUCTION
Purpose and Scope
This report describes the results of a study of the feasi-
bility of irrigating certain areas adjacent to Sudduth,
Williams, Bush and Bolton Draws in connection with Kerr Coal
Company's mine in North Park, Jackson County, east of Walden,
Colorado. The study was undertaken to evaluate whether the
lands examined have the capability to be flood irrigated in
terms of the physical availablity of water and economic
feasibility, in accordance with normal farm and ranch
practice in the northwest Colorado area.
• The draws are left bank tributaries of the Canadian River in
the North Platte River Basin. Areas included in the study are
those adjacent to the draws which are considered topo-
graphically capable of being irrigated by a gravity system,
consisting of storage reservoirs, diversion structures and
conveyance canals of the kind commonly used within the North
Park. The determination of feasibility has been evaluated in
terms of the criteria set forth in an OSM draft publication
titled "Technical Identification and Study of Alluvial Valley
Floors Guidelines" dated August 1, 1978 and revised August
15, 1978.
Feasibility Criteria
As stated in the OSM guidelines, areas that have the
capability of being flood irrigated are those where:
• 1.
