6 <br />• Within the Michigan River Basin, similarly sized basins which <br />appear to support irrigation include Peterson Creek and Sales <br />Creek. Peterson Creek generates the flow, but the irrigated <br />acreage is 8 miles away. In Sales Creek, the two existing <br />ditches utilize irrigation return flow and imported water. <br />For the Stemler Ditch, water is imported from the Michigan <br />River through the Squibob Ditch. The Sales Ditch No. 2 <br />imports water from the South Fork of the Canadian River. In <br />addition, the Sales Ditch No. 2 diverts water imported to the <br />Canadian River through the Sales Ditch. <br />Maximum irrigation height above the source of water supply is <br />another index which must be addressed. Most of the irrigation <br />schemes in the area do not have irrigation heights above 40 <br />feet. The Bona Fide Ditch takes water from the Canadian River <br />and irrigates land which is a maximum of 70 feet above its <br />• source. The irrigated land is located in three unnamed draws <br />southeast of the Kerr Mine area. The Bona Fide Ditch water is <br />imported from the Canadian River and into the three draws. <br />Although it would be possible to construct a ditch or ditches <br />to import water from the Canadian River to irrigate portions <br />of the four draws, it is believed that imported water should <br />not be considered in determining alluvial valley floors. <br />In summary, all of the apparently successful irrigation <br />schemes studied derive their water from the mainstem Canadian <br />and Michigan Rivers, or from tributaries which have good <br />physical supplies or from sources derived from or <br />supplemented by imported water. All of these projects have <br />more dependable sources of supply than Bolton, Bush, Williams <br />or Sudduth Draws. Potential irrigation schemes have been <br />judged using engineering, economic and regional practice <br />criteria. It is believed that the four draws associated with <br />the Kerr mine area do not have the natural characteristics to <br />Leonard Rice Consulting Water Engineers. Inc <br />
