EXHIBIT 37a
REGIONAL IRRIGATION STUDY
OF NORTH PARK FOR
KERR COAL COMPANY
Introduction
This regional analysis of the irrigation practices of a
portion of North Park in Jackson County, Colorado has been
undertaken to provide additional information requested by the
Colorado Mined Land Reclamation (MLR) staff in their Kerr
Coal Company permit review letter dated October 9, 1980.
Original material (Kerr Coal Company Exhibit 37) submitted in
connection with the alluvial valley floor determination for
Bolton, Williams, Bush and Sudduth Draws was considered
• inadequate by the MLR staff. While the original study
evaluated the engineering and economic aspects associated
with properly designed irrigation systems for the draws, in
the opinion of the MLR staff it did not adequately analyze
potential irrigation in terms of regional practice. The study
area, the irrigation systems and the estimated irrigated
areas for the present study are shown on LRCWE Plate I, North
Park Irrigation Study.
The portion of North Park evaluated for this study includes
all of the irrigation system believed to exist on the
Canadian River and on the Michigan River, excluding the
Illinois River. The irrigation systems and irrigated areas
were identified on U.S.G.S. 7~ minute quadrangle maps. No
field verification was attempted. A straight line diagram of
a portion of the Canadian River was compiled from the State
Engineer Basin Rank list and stereo paired air photographs
• were evaluated for a portion of the Canadian River area.
Extensive use has been made of Kerr Coal Company Map 27,
Leonard Rice Consulting Water Engineers.lnc
