It is about 50 percent Salter stony sandy loam and about <br />30 perCerit Rock outcrop. This soil consists of shallow, well drained <br />~•ails. These soils are on uplands and are underlain by bedrock at a <br />depll, of 1G to 20 finches. Mean annual precipitation ranges irorn 75 to <br />17 inches, mean annual air temperature ranges from 47 to 49 degrees F, <br />and the frost-free season ranges from 135 to 150 days. <br />In a typical profile, the Ba11er soil has a surface layer of dark <br />Grayish brawn stony sandy loam about 6 inches thick. The subsurface <br />laver is d.,rl•: grayish brown vary stony sandy loam about 5 inches <br />thtr_1:. Be low tr~is is hard sandstone. <br />Permeability is moderately rapid, and tl~e available water capacity is <br />low. Reaction is neutral. Included with this complex in mapping is <br />about 20 percent Carnere soils and areas of soils that are similar #a <br />the Ba11er soil but that have a clayey cubsoil. <br />Runoff is medium to rapid, and tlte` hazard of water erosion is moderate <br />to se~,+ere. Deep gullies are in some areas. <br />This ~;ntl is suitetl to native grasses. Scattered stands of ponderosa <br />pine ;are in a tow areas. <br />~rr~e Bolter soil is a Shallow Foothill range site. <br />
