Suite 500 <br />Longmont, CO 80501 <br />(303) 772-5282 <br />Metro (303) 665-6283 <br />FAX (303) 665-6959 <br />(first initial, last name)@long.rmcco.com <br />RE: Stability Analysis for Adjacent Permanent Man-Made Structures, Fredstrom Mine, <br />Boulder County, Colorado; RMC Job No. 80-3919.003.00 <br />Dear Mr. Roche: <br />This letter has been prepared to address Construction Materials Rule 6, Section 4, Subsection 19, Exhibit <br />S -Permanent Man-Made Structures (6.4.19, Exhibit S) for the proposed Fredstrom aggregate mine to <br />be located in Boulder County, west of Longmont, Colorado. <br />The Fredstrom mine is located in parts of Section 31, Township 3 North, Range 69 West; Section 36, <br />Township 3 North, Range 70 West; Section 1, Township 2 North, Range 70 West; and Section 6, <br />Township 2 North, Range 69 West in Boulder County, Colorado. The site is east of North 75`" Street and <br />north of Saint Vrain Road. Saint Vrain Creek bisects [he site. Land use in the vicinity is predominately <br />imgated agricultural and rural residential. A county park and recreation area (Pella Ponds) consisting of <br />reclaimed gravel lakes lies immediately north of the site. Additionally, a railroad line is immediately north <br />of the northeast comer of the site. <br />Plans are to mine the site in six phases. Phases 1 and 2 will be south of Saint Vrain Creek and will <br />consist of four open mine pods on the order of l0 feet deep, ranging in area from approximately five to 13 <br />acres. One berm of overburden material will be on the south-central side of Phases 1 and 2. Phases 3 <br />through 6 will be north of Saint Vrain Creek and will consist of five open mine pads ranging in depth from <br />approximately eight to 22 feet and in area from approximately seven to 33 acres. Temporary berms of <br />overburden and topsoil north of the creek will be on the west part of the site along North 75t° Street, on <br />the north-central part of the site near Pella Ponds, and along the north part of the east site boundary. The <br />mine will be actively dewatered with perimeter mine slopes of/_:l (horizontal to vertical). The mine pods <br />will be reclaimed as a series of wetlands and ponds. Pods reclaimed as wetlands will be partially <br />backfilled and regraded.
