i

III III III IIIIIII III
sss
Mr. and Mrs. Gary Stratton
5617 Ute Highway
Longmont, CO 80503
Mined Land Reclamation Division
1313 Sherman
Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Dear Sirs;

,. .
5EP 1 »°3
We are strongly opposed to the Down Flats Project. Our home
is approximately 3/4 mile south of the project site. We have
lived at our present home for 22 years, breathing the dust
and hearing dynamite blasts (which shook the whole house)
from the present site which is several miles south west of
our property.
The new site is much clotier and will be, we feel, unbearable.
It is inconceivable, that we will have to endure 27 more
years of these intolerable conditions. The dust and dynamite
blasts are more than we should have to tolerate. Even our
health has suffered because of the dust, we now have habitual
sinus problems.
We are always anxious that our cistern (water storage tank)
will crack due to vibration of the blasts. Now that the
blasts wi:1 be less than 3/4 mil r. away, we have no doubt that
our foundation and cistern sill not survive.
We have talked to a professional Surveyor/Engineer and have
been told that as soon as they start to dig on the project
our property value will definitelydrop 25%. As well as
every other property in the area.
We feel that the project will not be an asset to any of the
residents of the area, For we have endured 22 years of being
reminded constantly we have a quarry near. We don't care how
meny bonds are being put up, it won't be enough to reulaiui
the valley in 28 years. Look at SUMMITVILLE!! Now, tax
payers at that site, are having to pay for the reclamation at
the tune of $35,000 a day. The new quarry will be on our
doorstep. This means we will be able to look out our back
window and and see them destroy a once beautiful valley, as
they destroyed the valley southwest of us. The quarry has
been there for 22 years, that we know of, and they still have
not reclaimed that valley!
Taxpayers bought Rabbit Mountain as an open space to protect
wildlife. Now, we're going to let it be destroyed with a
thick coating of cement dust. This dust is harmful to humans
and wildlife!! When the November ballot comes up I think the
~~~~
