The assessment should be made throughout the 156
acre parcel It is our contention that Spring Creek Mesa has a high water table, especially during
the irrigation season, April through October. We have been told by the applicant that the mine
will be a dry pit. Monitoring groundwater should be done on, at least, a weekly basis for a period
of no less than a year.
- Please require Haldorson to provide data to prove that the proposed mining project will not impact
the existing water rights, including irrigation rights or the 10 decreed springs, directly east of the
site. Before a mining permit is issued, requre the applicant to submit written and detailed plans to
show it will not alter existing water rights.
- The applicant says that the land will eventually be restored to cropland, but they have failed to
show how the 40 feet deep pit will be restored, except to say that it will be covered with 6 inches
of topsoil. Please require written and detailed plans to show how [hey intend to do [his.
- The mine site is in an area that is changing from agricultural to residential. There are 3 schools, 2
churches and over 600 residences within 1 mile of the proposed mine. This is not an industrial
area and industrial noise standards aze inappropriate for this populated area. A mobile home park
(with over 200 children) exists less than a mile downwind. Health concerns, such as dust,
particulate matter, industrial noises and fumes present a particular concern,
The applicant, not the taxpayers, must pay for all costs in providing adequate information to the
public, the County Commissioners and to the Division of Minerals and Geology.
Thank you for your thoughtful consideration of these concerns.
Sicincerely, r Q
,V l.t.G--mac.. o-,.,.~, ~ I'~Qi..c.4'~12,~,
Duane and June Reneker
