OxBow Coal Mine
Geotechnical I nvestig anon
Seismic Refraction Survey
Summary of Operations
. Survey 2, Spread 1
Apparent depth to bedrock along the spread increases from 10' on the south end to 42' on the north end
(upslope). A velocity of 1375ft/s for the first layer is typical of unconsolidated sediments. Bedrock
velocities are higher (6225ft/s) and indicate a competent sandstone or shale (Figure 9).
6180
61]5
61]0
6165
6160
6155
6150
6145
6140
6135
6130
i 6125
~ slza
6115
6110 y, 93
6105
6100 s
6095
6090
6085
6080
0
~~~ o160W Seis mic line SpreaE 600
,~~ 932 9~ 9N N
mNgH 93a
9~ 9H
99
N 90 9H g6/
9H '/_f
9v'~/
99
90
96m591
ya ~' 9s V7 = 1375 fVs
V2 = 6225 ft/s
50 100 150 200
Distance (IQ
Fig. 9.
