RESPONSE
• GENERAL GEOLOGY
Introduction
The information contained in this section is meant to augment the
geologic information contained in section 2.04.6 of permit number
C-81-038. As such, there may be duplication of some of the
existing geologic report, but the description and data which
follows has been developed using enhanced computer modelling
techniques not available at the time the original permit and its
resource recovery and protection plan were submitted to the various
regulatory agencies. Also, it should be noted that some of the
maps, cross-sections, tables and figures have been generated
specifically for this updated resource recovery and protection
plan, while others have been incorporated from the existing permit.
A list has been provided at the beginning of this appendix which
identifies new and existing maps, cross-sections, tables and
figures.
The North Fork Valley of the Gunnison River is located near the
western margin of the Colorado portion of the central Rocky
Mountain system. Cyprus' Orchard Valley Mine is situated on the
southern flank of the Piceance Creek structural and sedimentary
basin. The area is bounded by Larimide structural and
physiographic features on the following sides: West Elk and Elk
. Mountains on the east; Gunnison Uplift on the south; Uncompahgre
